EXCLUSIVE: Starz and Channel 4 have greenlit a thriller The couple next door with Poldarks Eleanor Tomlinson and by Outlander Sam Heughan.
Filming has begun on the six-part thriller in Leeds and Belgium Professor T Producer Eagle Eye drama after Tomlinson’s Evie and Pete (Harry Potter star Alfred Enoch) who move to an upscale neighborhood and find themselves in a world of curtain-raising and status anxiety. They find friendship in the form of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny (Heughan) and his wife, glamorous yoga teacher Becka (Jessica De Gouw), but trouble ensues after Danny and Evie share a passionate night together .
The American streamer and the British network, who have never produced together, are described The couple after by as “a psychological drama that explores the debilitating claustrophobia of suburbia and the aftermath of chasing your darkest desires”.
Tomlinson is best known for playing Demelza Poldark alongside Aidan Turner for five seasons of the hit BBC drama Poldark. Additional credits include Stephen Merchant comedy-drama The prohibitions and Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of David Nicholls’ Once.
Scottish actor Heughan is gearing up for a seventh season of the Starz hit Foreignerin which he plays Jamie Fraser while also starring in Priyanka Chopra’s Jonas rom-com in love again featuring Celine Dion – planned release in May. He recently made headlines when his memoir revealed how a brutal rape scene was taking over Foreigner Season 1 affected him negatively.

The thriller is based on a Dutch series New neighbors and fits within Eagle Eye’s strategy to turn European hits into programs for large English-speaking markets, following Channel 4 Suspect, which is based on a Belgian series and that of ITV Professor T, based on a show from Denmark.
