X-MEN ’97 writer Beau DeMayo teases Mr. Sinister’s foolproof plan to destroy the X-Men

As we continue to wait for some first-run footage for the highly anticipated X-Men ’97 animated series, head writer Beau De Mayo confirmed that the main villain of the story is Nathaniel Essex/Mister Sinister, and teased his dastardly plan to bring down the X-Men once and for all.

During the virtual event X-Men: 60 Uncanny Years Live Nathaniel DeMayo enthused:

“A very, very, very, very favorite character of mine and many others, Mr. Sinister, will rear his ugly head from the past with a pretty foolproof plan to destroy the X-Men once and for all.”

The story for the revival picks up where the original did X-Men the cartoon series went on hiatus and begins with Magneto and the X-Men after Professor X departs for Shi’ar space in the original show’s series finale.

The recently released synopsis revealed that Sinister would play a major role in the story and reads: “Storm and Wolverine seek to continue the X-Men. Magneto arrives and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister arrives to try and end the X -Men once and for all”.

The series also brings back the original voice cast, which includes Cal Dodd (Glutton), Lenore Zann (rascal), George Buzza (Beast), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Chris Potter (gambit), Catherine Disher (Jean Grey), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler).

A few other characters were previously confirmed to appear including Bishop, Cable, Forge, Morph, Nightcrawler, Sunspot, Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and Callisto. Some of the other voice cast members include Jennifer Halle, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff BennettAND AJ Lo Cascio.

Talking about the series earlier, Knight of the Moon writer Jeremy Slater he explained that this is a show that fans should be excited for. The two worked together on Moon Knight, and she said, “Beau DeMayo, who’s doing X-Men ’97, is one of the best writers I’ve ever worked with in my life. He’s an absolute genius. And the other day We had dinner with our writers and he was telling me about some of the stuff they had planned X-Men ’97. I can’t say a single thing except that you guys have no idea how excited you should be about that show.”

He went on to say that the series is “going to be fucking awesome. So you guys have no idea how excited you should be about that show.”

Jake Castorena is the supervising director and Charley Feldmann is the supervising producer. X-Men ’97 will debut on Disney+ in the fall of 2023.
