Here is the synopsis and character descriptions:

Sweet and awkward 16-year-old Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High, but mostly just feels invisible.

She’s teaching math to her skater crush (Jaboukie Young-White, Ralph Breaks the Internet), who seems to admire her only for her fractals, and she’s prevented from hanging out with the cool kids at the beach because her overprotective supermom (the candidate at the Oscar® Toni Collette, Knives Out), forbade Ruby to enter the water.

But when he breaks rule No. 1 of her of her mother, Ruby will discover that she is a direct descendant of the Kraken warrior queens and is destined to inherit the throne from her imposing grandmother (Oscar® winner Jane Fonda), the warrior queen of the seven seas.

The Krakens are sworn to protect the world’s oceans from the vain, power-hungry mermaids who have battled with the Kraken for eons. There’s an important and immediate problem with this: the beautiful and popular new girl in school, Chelsea (Emmy winner Annie Murphy, Schitt’s Creek) happens to be a mermaid. Eventually Ruby will have to embrace who she is and go big to protect those she loves most.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken stars an extraordinary cast that includes Emmy winner Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead) as Ruby’s supportive father, Emmy nominee Sam Richardson (Veep) as enthusiastic uncle by Ruby and Blue Chapman (Council of Dads) as Ruby’s cute little brother.

It looks like a pretty nice movie with a different kind of story from the ocean. Check out the trailer and movie poster below and watch Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken in theaters this summer on June 30.
