The Bohemian Rhapsody scene in Wayne’s world it’s easily one of the greatest, funniest, and most memorable scenes in cinematic history. People still like to reenact that scene for fun today after all these years! The thing that makes that scene so special, what makes it pop, is the song they used, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen.

Well, it turns out that Mike Myers I had to fight to get that song into the movie! There was one other song that the studio and the producers wanted to use in the film, and that was a song by Guns N’ Roses. But Myers believed that the music didn’t have the right comedic value for the scene he had envisioned.
In a previously posted Vanity Fair video, Myers offered some behind-the-scenes insight into all of this, saying:
“But what I remember most about that was fighting very, very hard to be ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ and they didn’t want to do that. They wanted to do Guns N’ Roses, which I love Guns N’ Roses, but I had nothing funny for that. And then Lorne [Michaels – ‘Saturday Night Live’ creator and producer] he was like, ‘Do you really want this?’ I said: “Yes”. So Lorne fought for me. Lorne Michaels, Dana and I talked about five days ago [how] our necks are still hurting from ‘ba ba ba bom bom bom bom'”.
It’s hard to imagine that epic headbanging scene in the Mirthmobile with any other song. That song was so perfect and fit perfectly with the personalities of the characters. Luckily Meyers and Lorne Michaels won that fight! That song had to be in that scene!
During an old interview with Guitar World, the guitarist of Queen Brian May he talked about when he learned about the scene and what the singer was like Freddie Mercury got to watch it before he died of bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS.
May said in the interview that Myers called him “out of the blue” and asked for permission to use the song, and showed him the segment. May says she also showed Mercury the segment and recalled, “It was … confined to his bed, but I took him around and played it to him, and he loved it.”
It’s nice to know that Mercury saw this incredibly funny scene before he died. I didn’t realize she actually got to see him!
