‘Shazam! Fury Of The Gods Could Make M Global Debut – Box Office Preview

New Line’s COVID-Delayed DC Film Shazam! wrath of the gods will finally hit theaters this weekend in 77 foreign territories and the US, with a worldwide outlook of between $80 million and $85 million, with $35 million coming domestically.

The recent sequel directed by David F. Sandberg was set to premiere on December 21st, but last August Warner Bros. decided they would not play second fiddle. Avatar: The Way of Water, and moved the sequel back to mid-March, where they now have access to Imax venues, as well as Dolby, PLF screens and moving seats. The total number of movie theaters for Friday is north of 4,300 locations. Previews begin Thursday at 3:00 PM in 3,400 movie theaters. The LA premiere of the film Zachary Levi, Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler is tonight, but Sandberg will not attend because he tested positive for Covid.

Families came out with 27% on the first film and are said to represent even more this time with 50%.

wrath of the gods will be released overseas between Wednesday and Friday, expected to cost an international launch of $45-50 million. On Wednesday, Korea is among the main subjects (France leaves two weeks later to take advantage of the Easter break). On Thursday, Shazam 2 Germany, Italy, Australia, Brazil and Mexico are particularly affected, while Great Britain, Spain, Japan and China will be added on Friday.

In general, both abroad and domestically, Shazam 2 will no doubt see a lower launch than the 2019 original ($53.5m domestic, $102m WW), which has a bit to do with China getting cold feet on Hollywood spending. Let’s see if the photo over-indexes and outperforms the shell: both Creed III And scream VI beat their projections with franchise high starts of $58.3 million and $44.4 million, respectively. It also prevents a rush here Shazam is not your typical dark DC movie, more of a goofy PG-13 movie.

In terms of foreign compositions, in addition to the 2019 film and with withdrawn previews and Russia, the launch at current rates was $83.5 million. Taking China out of the equation, the comparable start on current exchanges was $55.5 million. While wrath of the gods Friday leads pre-sales in China, the same cannot be said for Saturday and Sunday. We see a potential of more than $12 million for three days there.

The hope here is that the family character of Shazam 2 strike a small flash in the English-speaking and Latin American markets. Great Britain, Mexico, Australia and Brazil were among the top total matches Shazam! the first.

The cast traveled to Rome and London earlier this month for promotional events and screenings.

Paramount/Spyglass Media scream VI look down -55% for the second weekend after a robust Monday of $3.66M. The Radio Silence sequel was expected to earn around $20 million. MGM/United Artists Releases Creed III should bring in between $17 and $18 million, -36%.
