SPOILERS WARNING!
* If you haven’t seen the Chapter 18 of “The Mandalorian”, “The Mines of Mandalore”don’t read on!

‘The Mines of Mandalore’, the second episode of the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’ just debuted on Disney+, an episode that makes us a key revelation for the future of the series. After being rescued by Bo-Katan, Mando enters the whitewater mines of Mandalore to earn his faction’s forgiveness and stop being a renegade. During the redemption of him, something mysterious attracts him and makes him fall to the bottom of the water. That something is about a mitosaurusa large creature that once roamed the outer edge of the galaxy. This being’s appearance could be crucial to the fate of Mandalore and its race.

Thousands of years ago, the Mandalorians tamed and hunted mythosaurs to prove their strength. Until the last episode of “The Mandalorian”, we believed that all these creatures, whose skull has been the symbol of the Mandalorians since Mandalore the Great first tamed one of these beasts, had become extinct before the annihilation of Mandalore. But no, a mitosaur is alive and with him Mandalore could once again be more than the ruins of a divided planet and people who once enjoyed greatness. According to Mandalorian legends, the appearance of this creature is linked to a prophecy: “Songs of eons past foretold that the Mythosaur would rise again to herald a new age for Mandalore”said the Gunsmith in “The Book of Boba Fett” 1×05. With the details teasing the different progress of the new season of ‘The Mandalorian’, we already guessed that Mandalore and the Mandalorians were going to be important, so it was to be expected that their situation would evolve somewhat, but after the resurgence of this creature thousands of years after its presumed extinction, it is reiterated that Mandalore is about to be reborn.
Recall that the Mandalorians are basically divided into two factions, one that, like Mando, considers their beliefs and legends sacred, and another that rejects them believing they are mere stories, as Bo-Katan puts it. However, with the appearance of the Mythosaurus, i.e. with the evolution of a myth into reality, the perspective of Bo-Katan and those who think like her when it comes to legends may change. Who knows if this creature will be one of the keys to uniting a divided people after so many years, once again forging a hypothetical common faith. This would undoubtedly look like the “New Era of Mandalore” of which the myths speak.
The new leader of Mandalore
With the appearance of the mythosaur, everything indicates that a new era is coming to Mandalore, a stage that would need a leader. That leader is directly related to the Dark Saber of Command, which holds special significance to these people, as it was created by a Jedi member who was the planet’s leader for a time. Traditionally, whoever wields the Dark Saber is the true leader of Mandalore, so currently that position should be filled by the Commandbut it has no interest. Conversely, Bo-Katan has it and believes he must possess the saber to unite all of Mandalore. Our protagonist can’t just give it to him, you can only be the owner of this saber if you defeat its owner in real combat.
We saw in 3×02 that Bo-Katan wields it with great skill, much better than Mando, who is not finished yet. That is to say, traditionally Mandalorian we have what should be the new leader, Din Djarin, but because of his past and his interest we have another great candidate, Bo-Katan. This is where this question connects directly with the Mythosaurus. If he’s reappeared after thousands of years, it might be because he has identified in its mines the future and true leader of Mandalore, and has therefore awakened to bring “a new era for Mandalore”. Is it Din Djarin who will unite the Mandalorians by creating a new stage? Or is it Bo-Katan? Wait, Grogu, a Force-sensitive Mandalorian, as well as the former Jedi leader and Mandalore who created Darksaber, was also in the cave. What if…?
* ‘The Mandalorian’ premieres a new episode every Wednesday on Disney+, so 3×03 will be available on March 15th.
