Not long after the Shawn Levidirect movie Free boy blockbuster movies, Ryan Reynolds he enthusiastically shared that Disney wanted a sequel. He said at the time, “Aaaannnnd after 3 years of messaging #FreeGuy as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today that they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo!! #irony.” He went on to say, “If it’s not called ‘Albuquerque Boiled Turkey’ we’ve failed.”

Well, a couple of years later, his tone has definitely changed! Now it looks like she just doesn’t want to make it! She asks why everything needs a sequel these days and thinks it’s only right to make one move that stands on its own. He also says that the sequel is something that is still under discussion. Here is his full quote:
“There’s the potential to make a sequel to Free Guy, which would be fun. I would like. But I’m also like, does all that fucking have to be a sequel? I do not know. Sometimes it’s okay to make a movie and have it kick ass and then everyone goes home.
“So you know, there’s a bit of a push and pull there, resisting the urge to immediately say, ‘Ohh, doing a sequel will validate the first, ‘No, the first movie validates the first and then you can go with that. So I don’t know, we’re still talking about it.
So, maybe we won’t see a Free boy Continuation. While I enjoyed the first movie, I can definitely live without a sequel. I’d rather see Reynolds use his time, energy and talent to make another original film! He’s right, not every blockbuster needs a sequel. But the studios will continue to make them because they want to earn money.
