Suddenly Keanu Reeves casts doubt on CONSTANTINE 2

That’s how fast your luck can change in Hollywood. A few weeks ago it was confirmed by Warner Bros. that Constantine 2 it was in the works and that Keanu Reeves he would reprise his role as John Constantine. Many fans were worried about the shakeup James Gunn AND Peter SafranDC Studios’ future plans.

Well, it looks like fans may be concerned again because in a recent interview with ComicBook, Reeves was asked about the status of the project and his response was disappointing. He said:

“I was hoping so, but we don’t know. Yes, we are trying.

So, that was amazing, and it’s a shame to hear that! This is something he was incredibly excited to do, and Francis Lawrence is back to direct it with Akiva Goldsman writing the screenplay! Reeves has been constantly trying to make this sequel and previously shared that almost every year he would ask the studio to make a sequel until they finally said yes. He explained:

“I don’t know if it was an unfinished business, but it was definitely a role that I loved. And I thought Francis Lawrence, the director, did such an amazing job. I loved playing that character and I really enjoyed the movie. I was as, [in a Oliver Twist voice] “Can I have some more?” “I kept asking almost every year. I was like, ‘May I please?’ and they said, ‘No, no!'”

Now there’s a chance the studio will once again say no to him. Reeves’ return for a sequel to Constantine is guaranteed success! So, it sucks to see Reeves give this disappointing update.

Goldsman previously told Deadline he was working on the script and teased the sequel would “expand on the themes” introduced in the first film. It was also explained that the film would continue to explore the barrier between Earth and the “evil creatures” on the other side.

I’m not ready to give up hope on this one because I really want to Constantine 2 to happen. Hopefully Reeves and his team are able to pull it off!
