With Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be out soon, director David F. Sandberg it’s teasing what we can expect from the film and extolling it. He wants people to see the movie so badly, he’s now comparing it to Marvel’s Avengers.

During a recent interview with Total Film/Games Radar, Sandberg said, “It’s like an Avengers mini-movie” and went on to explain why by saying:

“That’s how I saw it because there are so many characters. You have all these heroes, you have villains, you have monsters… It’s a lot of film packed into its length. up to 11 characters in one scene… Where do you put them all? It’s really hard!”

Hopefully, Sandberg has what it takes to juggle that kind of cinematic and narrative madness and deliver a great sequel. When you put so many things like that into one film, things could easily get messy. I hope he managed to keep it together. He went on to say:

“In the first one we had a smaller budget and it was a smaller film. It was like, ‘We really can’t compete with other superhero movies in action and scale, so we have to focus on character and humor — what makes it different.’ We had more resources on that so we could compete with other superhero movies.”

The first movie was so good because it focused on character and humor! This is what made the film unique. I hope they can keep it with this big scale movie. I don’t see why the director feels he has to compete with other superhero movies, just go out and tell a good story like the first one! All of these superhero franchises feel like they need to get bigger, and while there’s a time and place for that, it’s the smaller-scale movies that tell big stories that end up being the best.

Sandberg went on to talk about the heart of the film and how it’s about family by saying:

“The story is mostly about Billy being scared of losing this family. He found a family in the first film, and now they’re getting old enough that they have to leave a foster home and start finding work. So he’s terrified. They have to balance their lives going to school and having a job with being superheroes. It’s tough for them.”

The film “will continue the story of teenager Billy Batson, who recites the magic word ‘SHAZAM!’ is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam. He has the powers of six gods: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the endurance of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.

Billy Batson and his adopted brothers, who can all transform into superheroes, leap into action and fight against the Daughters of Atlas to save the world from a weapon that could destroy it. As you will see, this is not an easy feat and Billy starts to doubt himself and if he can really do it.

David F. Sandberg returned as director and the film’s characters and cast include Billy Baston (Angel Asher AND Zechariah Levi), Frederick (Jack Dylan Grazer AND Adam Brody), Eugene (Ian Chen AND Ross Butler), Peter (Jovan Armand AND DJ Corona), Darla (Faith Herman AND Megan Well), and Mary (Grace Fulton AND Michael Borth). Elena Mirren is taking on the role of Hespera e Lucy Liu he is playing Kalypso.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be released in theaters on March 17, 2023. I’ve also included four new character posters below:
