Two films from “Mean Girls” were not enough, so screenwriter Tina Fey, together with her husband and composer Jeff Richmond, made a musical. “super fabulous” inspired by the movie. And to top it all off, Fey announced in 2020 that she would a new film based on the Broadway show. Although we still don’t know much about the big screen adaptation (although we will see something very similar to the musical), we have long been receiving names that make up the cast, which Jenna Fischer just joined.

That’s right, what was Pam Beesley in “The Office” has signed on to play Mrs. Heron, Cady’s mother in the film. With her we will see on the big screen Angourie Rice, who will play Cady, Avantika (‘Spin’) as Karen Smith, Christopher Briney (‘The Summer I Fell in Love’) as Aaron Samuels and Bebe Wood (‘Love, Victor ‘) as Gretchen Wieners. Moreover, Renée Rapp, Auli’i Cravalho and Jaquel Spivey, who played Regina George, Janis and Damian on stage, will make the leap to the big screen. Rounding out the cast are returning Tim Meadows, who was Mr. Duvall in the original film, and Fey, who in addition to writing the screenplay joined the cast as Mrs. Norbury.
From the Broadway musical we will not only see some of the actors, but the music will also be very similar. Richmond, the creator of the songs for the show which was nominated for a Tony Award, told The Hollywood Reporter that: “What we’re trying to do [con la película] AND get a sheet music that sounds like Broadwayin a good way, AND [dar] a fresher palette to the film; making it sound more like something you want to hear on Spotify, as opposed to when you’re sitting in the eighth row in the middle of a Broadway theater or the Pantages. It’s kind of a fresher, younger version”. He added that it was a lot of fun, because in a way I am “reinventing music for cinema”.
great singers
Of course, if it’s a musical film, it is essential that the actors can sing, and it has been proven Fischer in Jake Kasdan’s ‘Dewey Cox: A Long Hard Life’ play Darlene, a backup singer; or more recently, Angourie Rice performed one of the songs from the soundtrack of the series “Mare of Easttown”. In general, the entire cast meets the requirements and especially the stars of the musical, who have already proven their skills on stage.
