Director Paul Feig (Freaks and misfits, The office, Bridesmaids) has teamed up with Amazon to bring a new action comedy titled to the screen Great Batch of Death. She cast an incredibly talented trio for the film’s lead roles, including Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, The farewell), John Cena (Blockers, The suicide squad), AND Simu Liu (Kim’s convenience, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
The film is written by Rob Yescombe (Off the wire), and “is set in the very near future, where a large lottery has been set up in economically troubled California. The only problem? You will have to kill the victor before sunset to legally claim his prize. New L.A. transplant Katie (Awkwafina) accidentally ends up with the winning ticket and must join forces with amateur jackpot pimp Noel (Cena) to make it to sunset to claim her multi-billion dollar prize, all while dealing with Noel’s protection rival Louis. Lewis (Liu), who also wants to take her to the sunset to claim her rich protection fee.
Amazon and MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke said of the project:
“Great Batch of Death it’s the kind of original idea that audiences have been craving, and there’s no one better than the infinitely talented Paul Feig to steer the ship. We can’t wait to see John Cena, Awkwafina and Simu Liu bring this fun, action-packed script to life for our Prime Video customers around the world.”
Feig added:
“I love action comedies and extreme physical comedies and this film has both in abundance, as well as a load of heart and hilarity. This lottery will make us all winners.”
Sounds like an interesting project and the cast is great, so I’m excited to hear more.
