Among the characters that we will see in ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie’ Princess Peach cannot be missing, but, according to the trailers, The film adaptation of the Nintendo video game features a different Peach, far from her classic damsel in distress role. In most games in the series, Bowser kidnaps Peach, but as the directors of “Super Mario Bros.: The Movie” for Total Film (via ComicBook) confirm, the villain traps Luigi in the movie: “Mario’s goal is to save his brother from Bowser’s clutches. He must embark on an epic adventure to do so. Known for being a nervous and anxious character, Luigi finds himself in the worst possible situation: surviving Bowser’s interrogations.”

Freed from Bowser’s clutches, Princess Peach, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy (“Lady’s Gambit”), gets a chance to leap into action and help fight the villain. In the interview with Total Film, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the directors, explained this the reason they make the character more defiant, brave and heroic than in the game is because here she is the leader of the village, not someone to save: “She’s the monarch who leads a kingdom of lovable, hapless Toads. We thought about how strong she would have to be to protect all those people. That shapes the idea of Peach’s character in our film.”
Chris Pratt, “Perfect” for the role
Without a doubt, the section of “Super Mario Bros.: The Movie” that causes the most buzz on social networks is the choice of Chris Pratt (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) to voice Mario. Since it was announced that the role was his, a lot of negative comments have not stopped raining on him.. Faced with such discontent and distrust of the actor’s level to voice the plumber, the directors of the film have released In Pratt’s defense: “It made a lot of sense to us. He is very good at playing a hardworking hero with a big heart. The way Mario is portrayed in our film, it’s perfect [para el papel].”
Chris Meledandri, producer of the film and CEO of Illumination, the studio responsible for ‘Super Mario Bros.: The Movie’, had already defended Pratt in June 2022: “When people hear Chris Pratt’s performance, the criticism will go away. Perhaps not entirely, people love to have opinions, as they should. I’m not sure if this is the smartest defense, but as someone of Italian-American heritage, I feel I can make this decision without worrying about offending Italians or Italian-Americans… I think we will. Take care.”
