‘Cobra Kai’: Ending the series in season 6 was the creators’ decision, not Netflix’s

So far this year (which is pretty little) Netflix has canceled ‘1899’ (which doesn’t even end), ‘Ultrasecretos’, ‘Unparejado’, ‘The Director’ and a few others. Moreover, In late January, it was announced that “Cobra Kai” would return for a sixth season, but that it would be the last. But as much as the decisions to end mid-productions are pissing off subscribers, it seems the streaming platform had nothing to do with the shutdown of this ‘Karate Kid’ sequel.

It was the same Jon Hurwitz, creator of ‘Cobra Kai’, who on his social networks He wanted to reiterate that the decision to end the series was made by the creative team and had nothing to do with hearings, budgets, or corporate decisions:

“- What was your reaction when they told you it was the last season?

– Netflix didn’t tell us it was the last season. We told him it was the last season. We always wanted to finish ‘Cobra Kai’ on our own terms. and we appreciate having had the opportunity to do so. But that doesn’t mean we’re done with the Miyagiverse, we’re blown away by this universe.”

It is interesting that, although it is time to finish ‘Cobra Kai’ still high without further stretching it by decreasing its quality, Hurwitz hints that they may return with our projects related to ‘Karate Kid’, referring to Mr. Miyagi, the karate master fighter and mentor to Daniel LaRusso. In fact, it is not the first time that he talks about possible spin-offs, he already did it in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last September: “We can’t wait to explore more”. There will also be, in addition to Netflix, a new film franchise from Sony, which promises to be “the return of the original saga”, which is curious considering that ‘Cobra Kai’ is already starring part of the original cast like Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and Martin Kove.

What awaits us

While there is no release date for the new episodes, in them we expect to see Kreese seeking revenge on Daniel, Johnny and possibly Terry Silver, what happens with Robby and Kenny, the romance between Chozen and Kumiko and whether they can get Julie Pierce Hilary Swank out (perhaps as Tory’s mother?). What Josh Heald, Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have promised is that it will “Greatest Season to Date” and the same thing can mean a little trip to Japan to participate in Sekai Taikai.
