What are the classics for if not to experience stages that we never get to experience. The beauty is that art always has an answer, and proposes to live what it might have been like to spend a night in the past. That is why we now look at some period horror films with which many can see what the world was like centuries ago or a few decades ago.
There are hundreds of stories set in phases of humanity that would have to be reviewed every one of them, but that’s it horror film with period plots they have something special. The lighthouse
Robert Eggers is a master of setting his stories in phases of the past and, for example, “The Lighthouse”, one of the best period horror movies of all time. The story stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, who give life to two lighthouse keepers charged with taking care of an old lighthouse for two weeks, without loneliness taking away their sanity. Starring Johnny Depp along with Christina Ricci and Christopher Walken, we have ‘Sleepy Hollow’ and ‘The Legend of the Headless Horseman’, one of the best gothic horror movies. The story follows Ichabod Crane, a colonial-era cop who uncovers a series of beheadings at a mansion in upstate New York. Available on Star+.

The others
From the mind of Alejandro Amenábar, we have ‘The Others’, a film starring Nicole Kidman, who plays Grace, a woman willing to do anything to defend her children. The story takes place just after the Second World War, in which a woman in a haunted house, who tries to defend her children from both real and supernatural threats.
Mandy
If there is a horror film that fits Nicolas Cage’s career perfectly, it is ‘Mandy’, a story by director Panos Cosmatos, in which he shares the screen with Andrea Riseborough. The story follows a stranger who seeks revenge against the people who have taken his partner and the peace of mind of his life. Available on YouTube.
The Witch
Once again Robert Eggers appears on the list, but this time to cap it off with his instant classic, ‘The Witch’. It is a story set in the seventeenth century and starring Anya Taylor-Joy. The plot follows a family who are banished to live together in a forest, where a terrifying legend lives on about an evil presence. Available on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
