‘Lilo and Stitch’: Zach Galifianakis joins Disney’s live-action remake

The live action remake of ‘Lilo and Stitch’ is taking shape. If we announced by the summer of 2022 that Dean Fleischer Camp would take over, we now present the first signing to you: Zach Galifianakis, although it has not been revealed what role he will play. The film will be produced directly for Disney+, the company’s streaming platform, just like ‘Lady and the Tramp’ and unlike ‘Mulan’, ‘Aladdin’ or ‘The Little Mermaid’, which will hit theaters on September 26th.

As for the team, it seems that Chris Sanders (writer and director of the original film) will return to lend his voice to Stitch and the script of the remake is written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright with the participation of Mike Van Waes, who will also write “The Crooked Man”. Fleischer Camp is nominated for an Oscar this year for “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” in the Best Animated Feature category.

‘Lilo and Stitch’ tells us the story of 6-year-old Lilo and her sister Nani, who live in Hawaii and adopt an adorable but rather destructive blue alien creature. The film was nominated for an Academy Award (which it lost to “Spirited Away”) and grossed more than $275 million on an $80 million budget. After its success, it became a franchise and had several sequels and expansions: “The Stitch Movie”, “Lilo & Stitch: The Series”, “Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch in Short Circuit”, “Leroy & Stitch” and ” Point!’.

Beyond Vegas

Although Galifianakis is easily identifiable from the ‘The Hangover’ saga, he has demonstrated his wide acting range in films and series ranging from ‘Tru Calling’, ‘Towards the Wild’, ‘Up in the Air’ or ‘Birdman or (the unexpected virtue of ignorance). We also saw him in the HBO series ‘Bored to death’, as host of ‘Saturday Night Live’ and we heard him voice the Joker in ‘Batman: The LEGO Movie’, Ron in ‘Ron Makes a Mistake’ or Humpty Alexander Dumpty in ‘Puss in Boots’.
