The Veronicas’ Jessica Origliasso says she came out against her will and was called a ‘fake lesbian’: ‘Labels were loaded’

Jessica Origliasso has been out and proud for a number of years.

But the Veronicas singer, who identifies as queer and sexually fluid, says her sexuality was initially revealed before she was ready.

The 38-year-old tells this week’s Stellar Magazine that she was exposed by media speculation at the age of 20 before publicly confessing her identity.

‘My statement [then] was that I didn’t have to make a statement. “I’m just going to be myself, and if you all want to call me a fake lesbian” — as they called me at the time — “I really don’t care,” she said.

“I was 20. I didn’t want to answer that because I didn’t know what the answer was at the time,” Jess continued.

“Then labels were loaded. But all our fans knew I was weird; I wrote about it in so many songs.”

Jess recently celebrated Valentine’s Day by packing on the PDA with her fiance, Alex Smith.

The You Ruin Me hitmaker announced her engagement to Alex in September last year.

She posted photos of the loved-up couple on Instagram with the caption, “WOMEN. (still crying a week later.) I’ve been waiting for you my whole life.’

The lovebirds shared a kiss as they raised their ring fingers in a pseudo-rude gesture, showing off their engagement rings.

Since then, they have often shared sweet moments from their romance with Jessica’s fans on social media.

She told fans she had received “no real explanation” for her divorce and wanted to “put the relationship behind us”.

Before Kai, Jessica was in a relationship with Australian actress and TV presenter Ruby Rose (36).

Jess and Ruby briefly dated in 2008 before rekindling their romance in 2016 on the set of The Veronicas’ music video for On Your Side.

The couple broke up again in April 2018 and took shots at each other on social media after the split.
