‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’: Jonathan Majors on ‘Star Wars’ comparisons: ‘We didn’t have that conversation’

‘Loki’ made first contact with him possible, but now, in the film that opens Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, we know more about Kang, the super-villain of the Saga of the Multiverse, whose history in the new chapter of the Ant-Man solo franchise marks the beginning of the Kang dynasty, a storyline that will culminate in 2025 with one of the next two installments of The Avengers, ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’.

The Kang of ‘Quantumania’ is different from the variant we encountered in the Tom Hiddleston-starring series, where he was an enigmatic figure who called himself the One Who Remains. The two versions, and all those that will come after, however, have something in common: Jonathan Majors, who brings to life the iconic Marvel villain. In eCartelera we were able to interview one of the actors of the moment on the occasion of the premiere of the film, a talk in which he told us what it was like sharing the scene with Michelle Pfeiffer, what you think of the comparisons of ‘Quantumania’ with ‘Star Wars’ and what all the Kangs have in common.

As for the latter, Majors dodges the question as best he can, as it would involve revealing the plans that are drawn for the character in the future of the MCU. “For all the secrecy surrounding the MCU, this may be the artistic decision I’m keeping under wraps for now.”He says. “Mainly because it’s something I really believe in and instill in every Kang… I want to make sure I can articulate that clearly when the time comes. And I have to protect it and keep polishing it before I present it to you. But there is something, no doubt”.

As for Pfeiffer, with whom he carries much of the plot weight in this “Ant-Man” installment, Majors is full of praise, but points out that they didn’t talk about their relationship before filming, which played out in favor of their on-screen chemistry “It worked in several ways. The first: we never talked about it”reveals the actor. “She, in all her glory and skill, built her idea out of it, and I did the same. When we get together, we start playing. And the result of that play are those layers of the relationship that I think you see in the film. I think it’s a very apt question to understand the strength and creative energy that Michelle brings to every role.”.

kang vs. Vader

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania’ is making many comparisons with ‘Star Wars’ due to the similarities between the Quantum World and the galaxy created by George Lucas (we also point them out in our review). That’s why we wanted to ask Majors if in addition to Alexander the Great (his basic point of reference for building the Conqueror) or the tragic characters of Shakespeare, in the Kang of this film there is something of Darth Vader. “I’d say it’s infinite. So yeah”replies the actor, who however clarifies that he never mentioned ‘Star Wars’ as a reference during the creation of ‘Quantumania’: “I wouldn’t talk about Vader, but if people see that reference or make that connection, maybe it’s because deep down, Kang is harmonizing with Vader and the world of ‘Star Wars’. The ‘Star Wars’ conversation is interesting. , Why we never talk about it. In all the time we worked on the film, we never made that comparison.. We just went about our business building this world. But ‘Star Wars’ is the best”.
