‘John Wick 4’, as promised by its director Chad Stahelski, is the longest film in the saga

“We took our time to tell the story. Until we fall asleep watching the film, we follow the narrative”, Chad Stahelski said of what they had planned as the longest film in the saga. Months later, Collider assures that the aforementioned director complied, revealing the duration of ‘John Wick 4’, longer than its predecessors but without reaching the 3 hours that some blockbusters exceed current as ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with its 3h or ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ with its 3h 12 min.

‘John Wick 4’, as promised by its director Chad Stahelski, is the longest film in the saga

“John Wick 4” would be 2 hours and 49 minutes long with credits included, which is not bad for a film of his profile. Those 169 minutes would leave behind the hour and 41 minutes of the first episode, the 2 hours and 2 minutes of “John Wick: Blood Pact” and the 2 hours and 10 minutes of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”. So this universe led by Keanu Reeves does not escape that general tendency among commercial films to give more and more as they evolve in the saga because, as Christopher Nolan said, we want sequels “bigger, not smaller”which in this case also applies to the duration.

Of course, according to the narrative defended by Stahelski, this decision would have been made more for the quality than for the quantity, because it was linked to the needs of the story. ‘John Wick 4’ will not only offer a very high dose of action but will delve into the lore of this world of assassins, something that takes time. “I love mythology. I love a good myth. I really don’t believe, at least for ‘John Wick’ movies, in a three-act structure. I believe in telling stories and letting them be [fluir]. You know, we’ve always seen John Wick as Ulysses, so we took our time to tell the story.”she said, finishing by admitting that she assumes it “There’s a limit to the urge to go to the bathroom”.

Very intense

Not only do Stahelski’s statements about the mythology of this universe point to a tremendously intense “John Wick 4”. According to the official synopsis, John Wick (Reeves) discovers a way to defeat the High Table. But to win his freedom, the aforementioned assassin must face a new rival with powerful alliances across the globe., an antagonist capable of turning old friends into enemies. In addition to this film we will travel half the world, with a plot that jumps from New York to Paris, via Osaka or Berlin. Joining Reeves are Bill Skarsgård, who plays the aforementioned villain, and Shamier Anderson, Clancy Brown, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins and Natalia Tena, along with the return of Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick.
