When thinking of a horror film, many people may believe that an absolutely necessary element to complete the objective of its story is blood. However, there seem to be conscious directors of people with hematophobia, who have avoided spilling a single drop of this vital liquid, but are no less strong for it.

On the totally opposite side of cinema gore, we have these horror movies suitable for people with hematophobia, capable of making you shiver, even without one of the most classic elements of the genre. And how do they do it? Well, managing to concentrate all its horror on the characters, and less on the dramatic strokes that jolt more than one from their seats.

Ring

A totally horror-based story that its characters are going through is ‘El Aro’, a horror movie that doesn’t shed a drop of blood throughout his footage. The Blair Witch Project

One of the best horror movies suitable for hematophobes is ‘The Blair Witch Project’, a film in Found Footage format, which follows three film students who want to document a legend of a witch who lives in a forest, and whose experience becomes completely real when they go into thin air. Buried

In a harrowing story that takes place in one place, we have “Buried,” a thriller starring Ryan Reynolds in which a man wakes up in a coffin, after his convoy is attacked during the Iraq War, and is left for dead. The others

Alejandro Amenábar premiered in 2001, one of the horror films that hasn’t made us feel the same since ‘The Sixth Sense’. This is ‘The Others’, a film starring Nicole Kidman in which she brings to life Grace, a widow who discovers strange events that indicate the presence of ghosts in her house and drive her into madness.

The Babadook

And finally, one of the best independent horror films of recent years. This is director Jennifer Kent’s “The Babadook,” a story about a mother and her son who live tormented by the embodiment of a terrifying figure straight out of the child’s children’s stories.
