When Marvel Studios introduces the Fantastic Four for the MCU, it looks like they’ll become a huge part of the franchise moving forward. We don’t know what Marvel is planning Fantastic Four movie, but in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige said Marvel’s First Family will be a big pillar of the MCU’s future. “The only other in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We kind of talked about mutants and that whole aspect of the Marvel world, but the Fantastic Four is the basis for everything that has come since in the comics. There have definitely been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the MCU narrative. And that’s something that’s really exciting for us. People will start hearing about it soon. We plan to be a big mainstay of the MCU in the future, just like they’ve been in the comics for 50 or 60 years.
I was hoping it would be like this. The Fantastic Four have always played a big part in the Marvel Universe in the comics, and I’m happy to hear that Marvel Studios will continue that in the MCU. But there’s still little information to share and we’re all waiting to see who will be cast in the film and what the story will entail, but hopefully it’s set in the 60’s!
Matt Shakman ( Wanda Vision) is directing the film, and he recently confirmed that cameras will roll in early 2024, meaning the project still appears to be on track for a February 2025 release date. He also offered the following update:
“It was too hard to let go and go home to Marvel, a place where I worked on WandaVision, with those people who are wonderful collaborators. It really is family there and being able to go back and deal with something that I truly love, and I am very similar in some ways both were launched in the 60s around the same time both are about optimism and looking to the stars and technology can fix everything and they are about family even the family you have, the family you create so they are aligned in many ways and they speak to my heart and alike, so I’m excited to be working on Fantastic Four.”
Marvel producer Stephen Brussard previously promised that the film will be a true celebration of the comic book source material:
“I don’t assume I know everything about that movie; I’m not necessarily working on it. But one of the founding principles of Marvel, going back to Iron Man and Tony’s casting that I think resonated today, is to embrace the source material and these comics that have been around forever. They are older than me and I guess they are also older than you. I’ve been around for a while for a reason, [so we] lean on that.
Marvel Studios previously hired Jeff Kaplan AND Ian Springer to write the screenplay. Fantastic Four arrives in theaters February 14, 2025.
