Jimmy Kimmel dons Maverick’s flight suit during the first Oscars host promo

Jimmy Kimmel was not the first choice to host the Oscars. Or the second. Or the 11th

So goes the riff in one of the more memorable scenes Top Gun: Maverick in the first trailer for Kimmel’s upcoming Oscars hosting appearance. Oh, and since it’s the Oscars, they were able to get Jon Hamm and Charles Parnell to reprise their roles from the film.

At one point describing the mission, Parnell says, “ABC has instructed us to find a host who is unwavering… and incorrigible.”

Kimmel replied: “It’s good, because I’m unbeatable. I cry a lot.”

There’s a pleading familiar appearance at the end, but we’ll leave that as a surprise.

Look below.

Two-time host Kimmel also offered an explanation as to why this sure-to-be-busy venue wasn’t aired during Sunday’s National Television Day, aka the Super Bowl:

“Even though we didn’t have $7 million to air it during the Super Bowl, we’re bringing it to you now at a much cheaper price with no distractions. ”

The Oscars air on March 12 on ABC.
