‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’: James Cameron becomes one of the highest paid artists of 2022

The success of ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ led James Cameron to position himself as one of the Highest paid artists of 2022. The director has earned more than 90 million dollars thanks to the multimillion-dollar collections that his film has reached.

After 13 years of waiting since the debut of ‘Avatar’, the sequel released in December was the highest-grossing film of 2022, and currently fourth all-time at the international box office. Thanks to this success, they secured themselves at least other three films in the saga and James Cameron managed to raise a large amount of money. According to a Forbes report, the director reportedly earned $95 million, peaking at number 8 on the year’s highest-paid artists chart, which includes the worlds of film, television and music. Additionally, Cameron would be the only director to make the top 10 on the list, aside from Tyler Perry, who sits at number 3 with $175 million.

The main reason that led Cameron to accumulate that fortune was an agreement signed with the film studio that guaranteed to pay him a large sum of money if ‘The Sense of Water’ managed to pass certain thresholds at the box office. With almost 2,215 million dollars collected, the terms have been largely exceeded and as this collection increases, the payment to Cameron could also increase. Something similar happened with ‘Avatar’ with which Cameron went on to win 350 million of dollars.

According to Forbes, the seven artists preceding Cameron on the list would be: in seventh place THE Rolling Stones, who reportedly earned $98 million this year from their international tour. In sixth place is found Brad Pitt with 100 million, thanks mainly to the majority sale of his production company Plan B and his participation in major releases such as ‘Babylon’ and ‘La ciudad perdida’. In fifth place James L. Brooks and Matt Groening, the creators of ‘The Simpsons’, which earned $105 million this year.
