While John Krasinsky may have made a brief appearance as Reed Richards in the brutal Doctor Strange followed, the new Fantastic Four the film will mark the official entry of Marvel’s first family into the MCU. While casting and plot details are being kept under wraps, producer Marvel Stephen Brussard promises the film will be a true celebration of the comic book source material. He recently spoke about the film, saying:
“I don’t assume I know everything about that movie; I’m not necessarily working on it. But one of the founding principles of Marvel, going back to Iron Man and Tony’s casting that I think resonated today, is to embrace the source material and these comics that have been around forever. They are older than me and I guess they are also older than you. I’ve been around for a while for a reason, [so we] lean on that.
It’s been almost 20 years since Fantastic Four hit the big screen, and the MCU has taken the superhero genre to new heights ever since. With this wealth of experience building these epic stories, Broussard is confident that this reboot of the Fantastic Four it will be the maximum realization of the team’s potential. He said:
“In 2005, perhaps there was a reticence to fully embrace what it was. In every thing; in the incarnation of Galactus and stuff like that. Whatever form the story takes, whatever characters appear or don’t appear, that founding tenet will be embraced and welcome them into the MCU.
Matt Shakman ( Wanda Vision) is directing the film and recently confirmed that cameras will start rolling in early 2024, meaning the project still appears to be on track for a February 2025 release date. He also offered the following update:
“It was too hard to let go and go home to Marvel, a place where I worked on WandaVision, with those people who are wonderful collaborators. It really is family there and being able to go back and deal with something that I truly love, and I am very similar in some ways both were launched in the 60s around the same time both are about optimism and looking to the stars and technology can fix everything and they are about family even the family you have, the family you create so they are aligned in many ways and they speak to my heart and alike, so I’m excited to be working on Fantastic Four.”
Marvel Studios previously hired Jeff Kaplan AND Ian Springer to write the screenplay. Fantastic Four hits theaters February 14, 2025.
