Mario and Luigi didn’t want to miss Super Bowl 2023. But instead of a new trailer for “Super Mario Bros.: The Movie”, the animated adventure of Nintendo characters wanted to join the other great tradition of the most important American football game of the year: advertising.
Illumination Entertainment presented a trailer for the film that actually was a commercial that promotes the plumbing services of the two moustachioed brothers. A completely retro ad where they say it for themselves “plumbing is a game” (a nod to the show that mixed live action and animation, “The Super Mario Bros. Super Show”, which aired in the late 80s) and claims to be “faster than the others”. In addition to using a very upbeat version of the game’s music, we also hear the totally honest testimony of a customer who assures (hard to read) that the only thing that hasn’t been unlocked is his bank account.

The spot ends with a phone number and a website, smbplumbing.comin which Mario and Luigi promote their services a little more, include more customer reviews (not all positive) and offer jobs as secretaries, drivers or marketing managers.
What if we call the phone number?
In the US, you can call the phone number that appears in the ad. What happens when we call? Skip a recorded message with Charlie Day’s voice as Luigi, who urges those in need of their plumbing services to text the same phone number, explains that they deal with any type of problem in any type of home, including mansions (a nod to “Luigi’s Mansion”), and says that they will not make them wait because the brothers don’t say ‘Let’s wait’, they say ‘Let’s go!’. Before saying goodbye, invite customers to visit the website, which is under construction and will be updated with more details.
Preview of “Super Mario Bros. The Movie”. in theaters April 7.
