National Guitar Day: Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Dolly Parton and other stars with guitars
Stars with guitars for National Guitar Day
February 11, 2023 is National Guitar Day, a time to celebrate every six-string slinger and glam guitar god (and goddess!) out there. From the moment sister Rosetta Tharpe shouldered an electric guitar and played the soulful R&B that would give rise to the rock and roll sound, the guitar has been a conduit for creativity and emotion. Over the decades, the instrument has become iconic. The country and western genre evolved into the sound that would see Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves and Brandi Carlile cross paths in the world of pop.
Even pop stars want to be rock stars. Harry Styles knows the guitar well, as do HER, John Meyer and others. In addition, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is based on the works of Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, BB King and Prince, who made these guitars sing like never before.
Learning to play guitar is easier than ever. Fender Play, Fender’s subscription-based learning app for guitar, bass and ukulele, makes it easy to learn the basics and progress beyond the beginner stage. Also, learning to play guitar can help students.
According to information provided by the Fender Play Foundation, the 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to increasing access to music education, the arts and access to music in schools (Prescool-Grade 12) is connected to the best results. Students with music and art classes have five times lower dropout rates, are twice as likely to graduate, have greater mental well-being and cognitive development, and are more likely to pursue a career. So, along with the joy of playing guitar, music lessons at school will lead you to a better life. Force!
kacey musgraves

Kacey Musgraves pictured performing for the Citi Concert Series by Today Show. While the electric guitar usually takes the glory, Fender Play reports that new students are pulling the plug. 56% of users are learning on an acoustic guitar, with 44% on an electric.
John Mayer

John Meyer presents “The Born & Raised Tour 2013” at the Cruzan Amphitheater on September 8, 2013.
Leo Fender (born Clarence Leonidas Fender) is the man best known for designing the Fender Stratocaster in 1952. The Gibson Guitar Company, founded by Orville Gibson in 1902, is home to the Gibson Les Paul, another iconic guitar that continues to inspire breakers to this day.
Nita Strauss

For years, Nita Strauss has been providing soulful licks and powerhouse riffs to the godfather of Shock Rock, Alice Cooper. “Hurricane Nita” plays an Ibanez here, during a 2019 show in South Carolina. In 2022, Nita walked away from Alice’s band to join Demi Lovato’s touring band as they embarked on their new rock sound.
Styles of Harry

Harry Styles performing on the ‘Today’ show in New York. Dressed in pink, Harry strums a Gibson, as if he were about to headline the rockabilly weekend of Viva Las Vegas (which he could probably do with a bunch of Marty Wilde covers).
HIS

HER performing at the 51st NAACP Image Awards in 2020 with a Martin guitar. These high-end guitars are considered the best in the business, although beginners can get something cheaper for their first instrument.
eddy van halen

Eddie Van Halen, seen here, is on stage for a Van Halen concert in 2015. Arguably the best guitarist of his generation, and arguably the GOAT – Eddie’s guitar work continues to inspire long after his tragic death in 2020 .
birth doll

You can usually tell the make and model of a guitar by the headstock. In Dolly Parton’s case, you can identify her guitars by all the rhinestones that cover them.
Ginny Gleason

Gina Gleason of Baroness performs during a performance at the Copenhell metal festival in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2017. Gina’s guitar work has helped Baroness become one of the most celebrated and respected metal bands of modern times.
Brice Springsteen

The Boss, in its glory days. Bruce Springsteen, I saw her playing his guitar at the LA Coliseum, circa 1985. It’s hard to imagine Bruce without some kind of guitar around him.
Jimi Hendrix

Another “greatest of all time” candidate, Jimi Hendrix is also known as one of the most popular left-handed guitarists of all time. The long story is that Jimi used to turn the guitar upside down, returning the instrument to the correct configuration.
Johnny Cash

Proving he doesn’t need electricity to be tough, Johnny Cash has become the Man in Black with the power of a guitar at his side. Here, he poses before putting on his signature suit.
Prince

Prince performing at The Forum, Los Angeles, CA February 25, 1985. If anyone can claim to be the greatest, it’s Prince.
William Nelson

Willie Nelson, on stage with Trigger, his Martin N-20 guitar, circa 1990’s. There are very few “famous” guitars out there. Trigger, as seen here, is one of them.
Jimmy Page

Jimmy Page, seen at left, is another guitar god. Long rumored to have tuned his guitar at the crossroads, the Led Zepplin guitarist is one of classic rock’s brightest stars.
child king

BB King may be associated with the blues, but he will always be a rock star. He will also be remembered for being one of the best guitar players.
