Some of us still hoped they would change their minds, but what we feared finally happened. On February 8, Netflix announced its new account sharing rules, ending password sharing and activating a new plan for creating sub-accounts outside of the main house, by paying an extra €5.99. The decision ended up being perhaps the most controversial in the entire history of the streaming platformcausing a huge stir in the networks that has lasted for several days.

On Twitter, The expression “the Netflix Thing” has remained on the trending list for the past few days, amassing 11,500 tweets in Spain alone (at the time of writing this). The hashtag #GoodbyeNetflix It also spread massively on Elon Musk’s social network, with Hundreds of users announcing unsubscribing from streaming service after new measures.
And as usually happens in these cases, large companies have wanted to take advantage of the situation to join the conversation and earn a few likes and retweets, as happens with one of Netflix’s direct competitors, Prime Video. The Amazon service posted on its Latin American Twitter account a tweet that contained an obvious jab at Netflix and its controversial decision.
Always remember:
love is sharing

? Prime Video Italy (@PrimeVideoLat) February 9, 2023
The tweet, posted on Feb. 9, reads “Always remember: love is sharing”and is accompanied by an image of the Prime Video account menu, with four images of Dwight Schrute (one of the protagonists of ‘The Office’, fully available on the platform) corresponding to four profiles: “the one who pays, his friend, his ex and his ex’s new partner”.
The joke, in the purest ‘The Boys’ style, generated many comments in favor of people who applauded the zasca and expressed their preference for Amazon’s service. Although there are also those who warn that Prime Video may regret it in the future, because you never know what will happen, as the case of Netflix has shown us. Who’s to say that if the experiment goes well in the long run, other platforms won’t follow suit?.
love is over
If Twitter users warned Prime Video that the tweet may come back to haunt you laterIt’s because something like this has happened before. “Take a screenshot for when they make the same Netflix mistake and we can remind Prime that love is sharing”You he said a user, to whom the Prime Video account replied with a gif of Patriot, one of the protagonists of its flagship, ‘The Boys’.
Love is sharing a password.
? netflix (@netflix) March 10, 2017
What he’s referring to is the already infamous tweet from 2017 where Netflix said so “love is sharing a password”and that it is still in its account, which has caused Internet users to retrieve it to remind the company that its current philosophy does not match what it said a few years ago. Prime Video Latin America’s tweet is clearly a nod to that message, which couldn’t have aged worse.
