This new series will explore “uncharted territories and new journeys of iconic characters from the original series. In the aftermath of the defeat of Spartacus and his rebel army in the series finale, the new drama will depict a new story of betrayal, deceit and bloodshed that takes place under the menacing shadow of Rome.

DeKnight in a statement: “It is such an incredible honor to be invited back to the world of Spartacus and receive the unbridled creative support from my colleagues at Starz and Lionsgate. Together we are creating something truly unique and unusual for the next chapter in this epic story.”

Kathryn Busby, president, original programming, Starz. he added, “It has been more than a decade since Spartacus delighted international audiences and we are thrilled to reinvent and expand this gripping, action-packed drama for our viewers today. Spartacus has deeply invested fans who are eager for his return and we look forward to working with Steven on this exciting next chapter.

I enjoyed the original series and thought the creative team did a fantastic job of telling the story they set out to tell.

In the first series, “Ripped from his homeland and separated from the woman he loves, Spartacus is forced into slavery and condemned to the bloody gladiatorial arena in Rome. As he navigates the violent and brutal world, he realizes that not all battles are fought in the arena and that he must overcome betrayal and temptation to survive. This retelling of the Spartacus story is full of blood, violence and sex.

Many networks seem to branch out to older popular shows. It’s good to see Spartacus returning and with DeKnight leading the charge, it’s sure to be a major revival!
