Over the weekend, Renegade Game Studios held a virtual Renegade Con and that meant big news for your favorite games. I will focus here on some of the news regarding theirs Power Rangers titles. You can watch the Power Rangers Tabletop panel below if you want all the details, but I’ve written the highlights down below.
We’ll start with the Power Rangers deck building game which is getting a new expansion called SPD to the rescue. As you can imagine, this brings the popular season SPD Power Rangers and will bring along 11 characters with their signature items, 5 Masters, 6 Zords and more. There’s also a new containment mechanic that’s modeled after the show when the Rangers arrested monsters at the end of fights. Additionally, there will be stackable cards and A-Squad Rangers will be a unique type of Villain. SPD to the rescue it’s not a standalone expansion, so you’ll need the core set or Zeo – Stronger than before to be able to play. Pre-orders are available now for $30 from Renegade and you’ll get Bonus Pack #4 with 12 foil character cards from the expansion.
SPD emergency!
This expansion has everything you need to join or oppose the galactic police force of the future! The leader of the Troobian Empire, Emperor Gruumm, threatens to make Earth his next conquest, using former Space Patrol Delta A-Squad Rangers to carry out his nefarious plans. The B-Squad Rangers, led by Commander “Doggie” Cruger, are Earth’s last line of defense.
In the world of Power Rangers Heroes of the Gridthe team showed off the new character packs Shadow of Venjix AND Ranger Ally Pack #3 which are both available to pre-order for $45 each. They also looked at the pre-order bonuses you can get if you pre-order both. First, you can get the Scenario Book 2 which has the regularly released scenarios for the game in a physical form. Second, you will get Zord pack #3 which has Super Zeo Zords, Warrior Wheel and Zeo Mega Battlezord. I love these Zords from the show and so this is very exciting for me.
Finally, there was news for fans of the Power Rangers RPG. First, there’s a Standing Package No. 1 which you can pre-order for $50 now. This pack includes 191 full color stands for Heroes, Villains and Zords plus 28 bases in various sizes although they are designed for a 1 inch grid system. Standees include everything you need for previously released adventures, A fool’s assignment In the Basic regulation, A sweet tooth for punishmentAND Adventures in Angel Grove. Overall, I think it’s great. I always struggle with them including the Rangers because the game is meant to allow for custom characters and you don’t want your players to feel self-restricted because they want to match their character. I see why they do it, it’s convenient and at the end of the day, having a standee/mini is better than nothing. I wish they would offer some sort of custom service or partnership with Dwarven Forge or Hero Forge or one of those companies where you could design your own custom Rangers and get them in mini/standee form.
We also got some more information about the new manual coming out this year. It is entitled Beyond the stars and is available to pre-order for $55 with an expected release in June 2023. Each pre-order will include a free PDF that will likely release a little bit sooner. In Beyond the stars, you’ll find new rules for things like calling allies, space combat, new roles including Gold, Silver, and Phantom Rangers, and more. This is sure to be a hit with the fans and I’m thrilled. When I first tried the Power Rangers RPGI felt it had too many flaws in the way it was written, but I was interested in giving FAQ 1.2 another go to hopefully clarify old questions.
Fantastic worlds and terrifying enemies threaten the network!
Across the Stars gives your Power Rangers Roleplaying Game the stories all players and GMs need to travel through space and face the enemies of the Machine Empire, the Truubian Empire, the raiders of the Pirate Queen Divatox and the forces of ‘United Alliance of Evil! With an entire universe to protect, the Rangers can expect to thwart the schemes of classic villains like Astronema, General Automon, Scorpius, and even the Dark Specter himself. Enemies won’t be waiting either, with new bounty hunters like Darkonda and Dayne and the fearsome Psycho Rangers looking to stop the forces of good!
Finally, it was said that there will be more discussions of things on March 1, including details for another source book, Finster’s Monster-Matic cookbook.
