Alan Cumming rocks Hollywood Romy and Michele’s class reunion got no follow up. The comedy starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino was released in 1997 and despite talks of filming a sequel, nothing ever materialized.

“I would like to do a sequel. I have to say, I think the fact that there wasn’t one is a very good example of Hollywood’s misogyny,” Cumming said. The AV Club in an interview.

“You know, I think the things I’ve heard about it are like, ‘Oh, you know, they kind of get along, older women, blah blah blah.’ Terrible. It’s such a popular movie. If there were two men in this successful two-man film, we’d have six by now,” he added.

Kudrow and Sorvino starred in the comedy, written by Robin Schiff, about two friends returning to their 10-year high school reunion. As the two prepare to go to Tucson, Arizona in their business woman clothes, they make up a lie about inventing sticky notes to impress their former classmates. Cumming played nerd millionaire Sandy Frink, who always had a crush on Kudrow’s Michele.

In June 2022, Sorvino the fourth hour of Today indicating that there is “nothing official to say” about a sequel, “but I can unofficially say that we are closer than ever to making a difference.”

Cumming said he hasn’t heard of a successor, but said he will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

“I would be very much for it,” he said. “You know, I have such fond memories of that film. And it’s obviously a kind of cultural icon, and everyone of a certain generation is really special to them.

Although Romy and Michele’s class reunion didn’t have a sequel starring Kudrow and Sorvino, but had a prequel TV movie that doubled as a backdoor pilot. Titled Romy and Michele: In the beginningstarred Katherine Heigly and Alexandra Breckenridge in the 2005 ABC Family film about high school friends who move to LA to seek the rich and famous.
