SPOILERS WARNING!
*This article contains spoilers for Chapter 4 of “The Last of Us”.
In the fourth episode of “The Last of Us”, Ellie realized that not only the infected and Phaedra are her enemies: humans are too. Kathleen, played by Melanie Lynskey, is scouring Kansas City to find them for killing members of her militia, believing they are in cahoots with Henry, whom she blames for her brother’s death. We heard her refer to it in the HBO Max trailer for the next episode: “He told me to forget, but where’s the justice in that?”. However, the same video shows it to us Kathleen will not be the only rival of Joel and Ellie in the fifth installment of the series.
In the advance we see clashes and we sense coalitions, but the most impressive thing comes at the end, when a new rival appears, more threatening than any human being and the infected we were used to. The monstrous figure approaches the protagonists, we see only the silhouette silhouetted against the flames. Joel and Ellie hide, terrified. Joel yells at him to run. Ellie may have already learned how to shoot a gun well, but it doesn’t look like that will be enough to stop him.

Although the fourth episode did not have the long duration or emotional intensity of the previous ones, its sequel promises a lot. Director Peter Hoar promised that the action in the next few chapters would be intense, emphasizing this chapter: “The fifth one especially, if you expect more shooting, punching and exploding things, here it is, you’ll get it, don’t worry”. From what we can see in the preview, she wasn’t lying.
What creature is it?
Despite the fact that the big new threat is backlit, its silhouette gives us enough information to assume that it would be a Gonfio, an infected who is in his last phase and therefore the most dangerous and violent, with a deformed body and tremendous brute strength, which will certainly not make him an easy target. Let’s see how Joel and Ellie come out… The good news is that we won’t have to wait a whole week to see it: the fifth episode will arrive this same Saturday, February 11 on HBO Max.
