Hogwarts Legacy game apparently includes first transgender character in Harry Potter history amid JK Rowling controversy



Hogwarts Legacy appears with a transgender character for the first time in the history of Harry Potter franchise. The upcoming open-world RPG, due out on select consoles on February 10, will mark the debut of character Sirona Ryan, a transgender witch who owns the Three Broomsticks pub. The inclusion of the character comes as Harry Potter author by JK Rowling The controversy surrounding her comments about transgender people continued.

One of the in-game cutscenes will see player characters enter the Three Broomsticks and say hello to Sirona, second Game Revolution. The player will interact with her during a quest, when she searches for a goblin named Lodgok. “I hadn’t seen him in years when he came a few months ago. But he recognized me instantly. Which is more than I can say for some of my classmates. It took a second to realize that she was actually a witch, not a warlock,” she says in the game.

The inclusion of an apparently transgender character comes nearly four years after Rowling was first accused of being transphobic through a series of tweets in 2019. In the years since, the author has continued to face backlash from sharing more comments that have been called. as transphobic, including actors involved in films of the Magic world. Even Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliff released a statement in defense of trans people after her comments in June 2020. “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice from professional health associations who have far more experience on the matter than Jo. [J.K. Rowling] Or me,” he said.

Many fans of the series have called Rowling a “TERF” (trans-exclusive radical feminist) for her comments. Rowling’s controversy has occasionally resurfaced several times since the initial controversy, such as when she published a book about it. Strike of the Comoros series, which involved a cisgender serial killer who disguised himself as a woman to take advantage of his victims.

The game’s website explains that while the game features Rowling’s creations, she did not write the story on which the game is based. “JK Rowling was not involved in the creation of the game, but as the creator of The Wizarding World and one of the world’s greatest storytellers, her extraordinary body of writing underpins all Wizarding World projects. This is not a new story from JK Rowling, however we are working closely with her team on all aspects of the game to ensure it stays in line with the magical experiences fans have come to expect.”
