It seemed like a joke or a project that would never see the light of day, but the sequel to ‘Gladiator’ is not only real, it’s also going from strength to strength. Ridley Scott will return to direct in this installment which (obviously) will not follow Máximo, Russell Crowe’s character, but Lucius. If the negotiations go well, Paul Mescal will play the nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) in the film.

Paramount Pictures has already set a release date for this ambitious sequel. ‘Gladiator 2’ will hit theaters on November 22, 2024, a very important date in the US as it is the weekend before Thanksgiving. Right now she only has one competitor: an as-yet-unrevealed Disney animated film that’s due out right this Thanksgiving weekend.

Lucius Verus II was portrayed by Spencer Treat Clark in the film released in 2000. Her mother, Lucilla, was played by Connie Nielsen. More specific plot details are unknown, other than whether it would explore the impact Maximus Decimus Meridius has caused on Lucius.
David Scarpa (‘All the money in the world’) is in charge of writing the screenplay for the sequel to ‘Gladiator’. He has a very high level to overcome. The first installment grossed nearly half a billion dollars at the box office, became an audience favorite, and he solidified his legacy with five Academy Awardsincluding Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe.
