There were a lot to love about the first trailer released for Lucasfilm Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinybut one of the coolest things to see was how impressive it is Harrison Ford’s aging seemed! It might just be the best de-aging I’ve ever seen in a movie, and I can’t wait to see the whole scene teased in the trailer play out in the movie!

It looked so good I couldn’t even tell there was digital deaging involved! It’s pretty crazy to see how far film technology has come. During a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen ColbertFord explained how the ILM team aged him for the film, saying:
“That’s my real face. At that age. They have this AI program. It can go through every foot of film that Lucasfilm has, because I’ve done a lot of films for them. They have all this footage, including the film that it wasn’t printed… They could extract where the light is coming from, the expression. But this is my real face. I put dots on my face and say the words and they do. It’s great.
Is fantastic! by Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy previously talked about the technology, saying:
“My hope is that even if it’s going to be talked about in terms of technology, you look at it and think, ‘Oh my God, they just found a footage. It was something they shot 40 years ago.’ We’re taking you on an adventure, something Indy is looking for, and instantly you have that feeling, ‘I’m in an Indiana Jones movie.'”
I just want to see this movie already! The film’s story is set in 1969 and Indiana Jones “lives against the backdrop of the space race, but the American effort to beat the Russians to the moon carries some uncomfortable truths for Indy.” It’s explained:
“The simple fact is that the moon landing program was run by a group of ex-Nazis. How “ex” they are is the question. And it makes Indy turn up his nose… It’s not just that the model of what a hero is has completely changed. It’s not just that they’re looking for something where there’s nothing up there – it’s like Reno without the gambling, or whatever his line is. But the people behind it are, you know, his sworn enemies.
The film comes from the producer Steven Spielberg and is also the protagonist Mads Mikkelsen (one more round), Phoebe Waller Bridge (Lots of fleas), Boyd Holbrook (Logano), Shaunette Renee Wilson (The resident), AND Thomas Kretschmann (The Avengers: Age of Ultron).
The film will be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.
