When recently speaking about the series in an interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit, Farrell shared the series’ episode count and teases the plan that Matt Reeves is imagining:

“I think it will be eight parts for HBO around Oz’s rise to power, filling that power vacuum that was created when Falcone was killed. Matt [Reeves]Penguin’s original idea was to have the Penguin show start about a week after the Batman movie ended. And then, if it works out, if the trajectory is interesting enough, and if the audience accepts it and we do our job well, let’s have the second movie – Penguin show up in the second movie and pick up where the HBO show ends up.”

The actor added that he doesn’t yet know if he will be there Batman – Part II, Although. I’m pretty sure it will be in the sequel as Reeves has previously said that the events in The Penguin would be installed directly The Batman – Second part.

“There’s actually a whole little fabric of things that we want to do, the way we’re doing it [the] Penguin and how that affects how that leads to the sequel and what that sequel will be.

During a previous interview with Farrell, he shared that he’s read the first script and teased what we can expect from the series’ opening scene, sharing:

“Gotham is still a bit underwater. I read the first script of the first episode and it opens with my feet splashing in the water in Falcone’s office. Even just that, I read it, I was like, ‘Oh man.’”

The Penguin Show has been described as a “Scarface-like” that will see the rise of the villain in the criminal underworld of Gotham City.

Lauren LeFranc will serve as writer and showrunner on the series, and previously said, “I’ve long been a fan of the world of The Batman, and Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon. I’m thrilled and honored to continue telling stories in the grimy world of Gotham City – and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than to tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot? I am thrilled to work with Colin, Matt, Dylan, 6th & Idaho, Warners and HBO Max as we work to bring this story to the screen.

Batman – Part II arrives on October 3, 2025, while the Penguin series still does not have a release date.
