The third chapter of ‘The Last of Us’ just came out, but The reception of the series is so good and trusted by HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery so much that it has already been renewed for a second season. In the project, a television adaptation of the popular and successful video game of the same name, Joe and Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, make their way through an apocalyptic United States fraught with challenges and dangers, both human and zombie.

The saga of ‘The Last of Us’ has, to date, two video games. The story of the former was fully adapted in the first season of the series, but the second adaptation could take more than one season to be faithful to the plot. Craig Mazin, one of the series’ showrunners, revealed in early January in an interview with ign that the story of the second part of “The Last of Us” is difficult to capture in television format with only one season: “He’s a great animal to take apart, you know? Because it’s a much bigger and more complicated story. I think it’s a beautiful story. It definitely covers more than one season of television.”
These statements reflect their preferences, but as far as the public know, it’s unofficial that they’ll go along with this plan. If so, it would be a big difference from the first season, which adapts the entire story of the first video game, while, according to Mazin’s words, The plot of ‘The Last of Us: Part 2’ would need a minimum of two seasons to be able to tell it as it has in mind.
And what about “The Last of Us: Part III”?
Beyond this extension of the series, since the beginning of the promotion, Neil Druckmann (showrunner and creator of the video games) has been asked many times if they were developing “The Last of Us: Part III”. Druckmann told Buzzfeed that Sony isn’t pushing them to do it: “‘Uncharted’ is a hugely successful saga, ‘Uncharted 4’ was one of our best-selling games. We were able to put the finishing touches on the story and say we’re done, that we’ve moved on. Likewise, with “The Last of Us” it’s up to us whether we want to continue or not. Our process is the same as when we did “Part II”, which is whether we come up with an interesting story that tells a universal world message and a declaration about love , like the first and second games, then we’ll tell that story. If we don’t find anything, we have a very strong ending in ‘Part II’ and that will be the end.”.
