GLU interacts with “My Demons” and shares the songs that generated this new sound (EXCLUSIVE)

Everyone fights their own demons, but GLU seems happy to spend a few more hours with them on “My Demons”, the title track of their upcoming EP. “The name GLU comes from a friend of mine who told me they are the glue in all my musical endeavors and friendships,” he continues. “Also, during the naming process, which is the worst thing to do, my aunt sent me a letter written about my grandfather. She spoke of her memories of the war, as well as the kind of man he was to this family. She stated that she “was in line in every situation”. That’s all I really needed to hear to make the decision about which name truly represented me.”

GLU’s grandfather also influences the EP’s cover art, especially the ring he wears on the artwork. “It’s my grandfather’s ring. Your initials,” she shares. “But it seems to keep coming up as something that has a lot of meaning in my life. I’m not really into astrology, but that’s about it. You start seeing all these things that align with that sign, things that keep showing up in your life.

MY DEMONS – released February 24 – begins with the title track, continues with “COLD SWEAT” and previously released “NIGHT SHIFT” before “MOONWALKIN’” before ending with “F**** D WITH MY DEMONS”. With the project starting and ending with “demons,” you’d think there’s a common thread that connects the songs to the release. Not like that. “It’s not a concept record or anything, but since it was written and recorded in the same time period, everything seems to fit together,” says GLU. Hollywood Life.

“All of this I did myself during lockdown,” he continues. “So this period has really allowed me to reflect on who I am now and what brought me here in my past. I was dealing with not being able to tour and play music anymore, which is pretty hard to stop. I think some of my dependencies persisted while writing and recording the disk.”

GLU’s creation period was characterized by stillness and dread, which may explain the nature of the songs on the album. MY DEMONS. But where other artists thrust their voices into red, howling in frustration from a thousand dire wolves, GLU tackles darkness and doom with a calm, peaceful cadence.

“That’s how I go on,” she says. “People tend to say I’m pretty calm and collected. Even though I have OCD thoughts constantly in my head, I do my best to resolve them and not let them take over. Like Bad Brains said, I have that PMA. So when it comes to my vocal delivery for GLU, I feel like it’s me. Very natural. And maybe the most me I’ve ever seen.
