HBO confirms that ‘The Last of Us’ will have a second season after the great success

It only took HBO two episodes to figure out the treasure it has in its hands with “The Last of Us.” And is that on the eve of the third installment, the streaming platform believes that the series with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey is successful enough to have a second season.

Through a press release, HBO has confirmed it ‘The Last of Us’ will have a second season, after the impressive reception it had among the public, passionate or not of the video game. And is that, with only two chapters, the adaptation has managed to have ratings that exceed or equal those of productions like “Breaking Bad” or “Game of Thrones” at the time.

Even if it seemed like imminent news,’The Last of Us’ will have a second season on HBO and HBO Max, which its creators have been talking about for a long time. In this regard, Francesca Orsi, series head of the platform, acknowledges that “Craig and Neil, along with Carolyn Strauss, and the rest of our phenomenal cast and crew, have defined a genre with their masterful season debut of The Last of Us. ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Might Cover Part of the Sequel

The creators have made it clear that with “The Last of Us” they do not want to overdo the plot of the adaptation and make the mistakes of “Game of Thrones” of expanding the plot without source material. However, Craig Mazin believes that, being a much longer story, the second part video game adaptation could fall through in a second season.

“I think the amount of story we have left to cover would be more than one season of television. So assuming we can move forward, the idea would be to do more than one more season. But this is not the kind of series that will have seven seasons,” said the creator of the series.

What can be read between the lines is that ‘The Last of Us’ could be extended to have 3 seasons, which entirely cover the history of the two video games. Well, it should be remembered that the second one is almost twice as long as the first one, so it wouldn’t be something totally unreasonable.
