Here’s a fun bit of info from the past that I recently learned about the Moon! In 1835, The Sun ran a series of satirical articles claiming that life had been discovered on the moon. Readers’ imaginations ran wild and the Great Moon Hoax was born.
He claimed that unicorns lived on the moon along with beavers who walked on their hind legs. Oh yeah, and how can I forget the four foot tall Man Bat creatures that used to live there too? Not only that, but these bat men build temples and fornicate in public. People actually believed it! It’s incredible!
These articles were written by Richard Adams Locke and he couldn’t believe that people take everything seriously. But The Sun never bothered to explain that the articles were satire and never issued a retraction. How come? Because they were making good money off the buffalo!
The internet is no different today. So many websites still come up with ridiculous fake news that people believe.

But before all that, it was August 1835 that launched the most inventive moon hoax of all. And it was at this moment, when the world looked up at the moon, they saw an entirely new lunar landscape that was believed to change humanity as we know it.
