‘Tomb Raider’: Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Amazon Studios are preparing a series and plan to expand their universe

It seems that the uncertainty surrounding the future of ‘Tomb Raider’ is becoming clearer, at least so say several North American media. After MGM lost the rights to the sequel, he was gearing up again with Alicia Vikander in the lead role, Amazon Studios would have decided to take a very different path with Phoebe Waller-Bridge at the helm.

According to Deadline, the creator of ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Killing Eve’ would develop a script for a series based on the popular video game, a proposition that would kick-start a new universe. Waller-Bridge would be the screenwriter of this television drama which would be just the beginning as the production house dj2, which took over the intellectual property rights, seeks to exploit the brand in various directions. Dmitri Johnson would oversee development of the franchise and handle production. In addition to television and film content, there are more productions on the way, with Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics announcing their agreement to develop a new video game a couple of weeks ago.

This approach has become a recurring bet for Amazon Studios, which recently acquired the rights to “Warhammer” with the goal of Henry Cavill as the protagonist and producer of a franchise set in that world, a plan that would include television series, films, games and animation.
