In the United States they call it a ‘sleeper blockbuster’, which in our country would be something like a ‘slow-fire blockbuster’, a film that has a discreet premiere but which at the end of its run, counting on its passage in theaters and impact on the platforms, can be considered a triumph. ‘Silent Night’, featuring David Harbour’s violent Santa Claus, falls into this category judging by the steps its director is already taking towards a sequel.

With a budget of around 25 million dollars, Universal said the film would have closed its passage at the world box office by grossing over 75 million to which were added 751,889 euros in our country. A decent amount considering that ‘Silent Night’ is pure entertainment and that it came out in early December last year with the idea of capitalizing on the Christmas momentum. Despite this, the aforementioned studio would be willing to prepare a continuation of Tommy Wirkola, a director who says he is immersed in the development of a second installment. He revealed it in statements to The Wrap, saying there’s no closed deal yet and oozing optimism about it.
“We are already thinking about it and closing deals so that everything is in order”, advances Wirkola, also clarifying that they will not apply and that their priority is to come up with a solid script, a task that once again falls into the hands of Pat Casey and Josh Miller. “We have time to build the script and come up with the story. We’ve already discussed some ideas. Pat, Josh, the producers and I, we’ve talked about where we want to go and what we want to see.” This could include an immersion into the traditional mythology of Santa Claus in true “Silent Night” style. “There are things we left out like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves… We have a really cool idea that expands the universe while keeping that tone we like from the first one.”
It is fashionable
Christmas action: it’s trendy. “Silent Night” came to repeat the festive point of “Die Hard” by adding a triple dose of Christmas, but a year earlier “Hawkeye” started betting on a wonderful action blend with the characteristic ingredients of said holiday. And for next year? Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans prepare “Red One”.
Described by Johnson himself as “a cross between ‘De ilusion tambien se vive’ and ‘Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw’, with touches of ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘How good it is to live!'”the Amazon Studios film is directed by Jake Kasdan (“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Next Level”. Son of Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter of “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” or “The Bodyguard”) , and features JK Simmons as Santa Claus.
