‘The Last of Us’ episode 2 confirmed crazy fan theory – HBO (Courtesy)
The adaptation of ‘The Last of Us’ has started off in the best way, and many believe that the beginnings of the two chapters have been the most terrifying scenes of the series so far, and that they are only explanations of this world. But many don’t know that the prologue of the second episode confirmed a fan theory that recently went viral.
It’s about flour theory ‘The Last of Us’, which explained the origin of the fungal epidemic that killed most of the population around the world, and which has become extremely viral on social networks. This speculation explained that the apocalypse had broken out when the fungus had reached the ideal temperature to develop in humans and that flour-based products were the best environment for its expansion around the world.
What explains the the theory behind the flour is that Cordyceps was passed on by products with this ingredient, which is why we saw the old woman in the first chapter get infected. After Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Sarah (Nicoh Parker) refuse to eat their neighbors pancakes, the older woman is the only one to convert, and on television we hear that there are several riots in Jakarta, coincidentally the city that has the largest flour factory in the world.
That’s how we got there second episode of ‘The Last of Us’, where the flour theory is confirmed. In the prologue of the episode entitled “Infected”, an army officer talks with an expert mycologist, precisely in Jakarta, where they examine a body infected with cordyceps. It is quickly explained that in the HBO series the patients have been in contact with “the perfect substrate”.

Flour was the origin of cordyceps in “The Last of Us”
The expert comments that the infected person was in contact with cordyceps “about thirty hours ago in a flour factory west of the city”. After realizing how violent and aggressive she has become, he orders that the only way to stop the infected from reproducing is to bomb the whole place, hoping the infection won’t leave the Indonesian capital.
However, there are still some open questions regarding the outbreak of the infection, for example, how did the fungus manage to spread, who was bitten by the infected woman, or how did the virus survive high temperatures such as those of an oven, if it is that it is transmitted by products with contaminated flour.
Anyway, this already confirms one of the biggest changes in the HBO series regarding the video game ‘The Last of Us’. Now we just have to wait for more details to be revealed about the cordyceps infection that has brought all of humanity to the brink of total extinction.
