Anyone wishing for “Marvel fatigue” to become a reality better keep waiting, because everything points to Marvel Studios having a new blockbuster on their hands. The film that officially opens Phase 5 of the Multiverse Saga, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ arrives in theaters on February 17 and box office forecasts call for the best opening, by far, of the Paul Rudd-starring hero’s solo franchise.

According to Box Office Pro (via ComicBook.com), the third installment of Ant-Man and the Wasp it could raise $131 million in its first weekend in the United States. Of course, the premiere is still almost a month away, so these predictions are very early and the figure could go up or down depending on many factors.
The first installment of ‘Ant-Man’, released in 2015, has one of the most modest gross of the MCU, with $57.2 million in its first weekend, while the second, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ ( 2018), raised the bar with a North American opening of 75.7 million. If the expected number is reached, “And-Man 3” reportedly grossed nearly the combined sum of the first two films in its opening weekend. What’s clear is that the film will be further proof of the upward economic trend of Marvel sequels and its audience’s loyalty to the larger scheme of its interconnected universe.
Hype for Kang and the quantum realm
While Scott Lang is one of the Marvel Universe’s most popular heroes, in the case of ‘Quantumania’, it appears that the main hook for the audience is the arrival of Kang, iconic Marvel villain played by Jonathan Majorswho will play a key role in what remains of the Multiverse Saga and of which we have already had a first taste in the form of a variant in “Loki”.
The new Ant-Man and the Wasp adventure will take the whole family to the Quantum Realm, where they will discover a subatomic universe full of strange creatures, where Kang will offer Scott a deal in exchange for helping him escape from there. In this way, “Quantumania” is postulated as a key chapter in the development of events in Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU, so many do not want to miss what will be the preamble of one of the crossover films in which this new phase of the saga culminates: “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”.
Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton and Jonathan Majors, opens ‘And-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ February 17 only in theaters.
