Last year, Free League successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to revive the Swedish tabletop RPG Drakar och Demonerbut now there is an English version released worldwide called Dragonbane. It looks like the game could be a lot of fun and easy enough to learn. Even though the Kickstarter has ended, it still allows late pledges, so you should still be able to pick up a copy with an expected delivery in August 2023. That said, there’s also a free quick start guide you can access complete with five characters pre-generated to really get into the action fast.

I had a quick read of the Dragonbane Quick drive and it’s promising. First, one of my favorite things is that one of the Kin (their term for species or race) is a bloody mallard which makes it 100% possible to play Duckburg without any third party doing it. Other highlights I’ve found are that it takes inspiration Call of Cthulhu in the fact that you’re trying to roll lower than whatever your skill level is to succeed, and you can push your rolls beyond taking a Condition. Another interesting aspect is that the initiative is determined by drawing cards from a pile and is determined every round! There’s a lot more to it that’s cool, so definitely check it out.
