There are tons of hilarious moments in the film, and a super memorable one is the fight between Sandler’s Happy Gilmore and the guest golfer Bob BarkerOf The price is right fame.
The screenplay, which was written by Sandler and Tim Herlihyit was thrown at Barker, and he was in… on one condition: that he win the fight.
This is a common request from actors, like half of the men in the film Fast & Furious film franchise, so it’s not a huge surprise, but it was pretty funny said by the aging actor, who turned 73 shortly before the film’s release. But he wanted to win honestly, complete with training sessions from none other than Chuck Norris!
During an appearance on Dan Patrick’s Podcast in 2021 (via /Film), Sandler confirmed the story, saying:
“Bob Barker read it, and his first response – and I know he probably tells everyone this – was, ‘I will. But I have to win the fight.’ Because he fought. His neighbor was Chuck Norris. And so he said, “I train with Chuck, we train every night, and he helps me with my punches and kicks, and I’d love to do that, but I have to win this battle.'”
It’s great that he was willing to do the work to train for the scene, and it ultimately turned into an entertaining and memorable cinematic moment. Check it out below and thank Chuck Norris for Bob Barker’s cool moves!
