While ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ continues to add milestones at the box office, reaching 40 million euros in Spain and nearly 2 billion dollars worldwide, the next chapter in the franchise is still in the works. “Avatar 3” will be released in December 2024, further expanding the world of Pandora. It will be in this when we finally meet Oona Chaplin’s character.

The Madrilenian announced in 2017 that she had joined James Cameron’s films as Varang, a character whose details she kept secret, although she had already warned that it would be “very beautiful”. Thanks to Empire (via Slash Film) we already know more about her. Varang is none other than the leader of the Ash People, the Na’vi fire tribe who will become the big news of the third film. As Cameron explained at the time, this tribe will show us the Na’vi “from another angle”. Ash’s people are described as “an aggressive and volcanic race”and they will be the first Na’vi villains we will meet in the saga.
The questions left by ‘The sense of water’
With this new tribe, led by the ‘Game of Thrones’ actress, we already have a starting point for ‘Avatar 3’, but producer Jon Landau points out in the same magazine that we really should have come out of ‘The Sense of Water ‘with a series of questions: “I hope ‘The Sense of Water’ has come to its conclusion, as I think any film will, but it kicks things off because we’re more and more invested in these characters. Where is Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) going? What is Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) up to? What decisions will Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) have to make? All of these things will continue to drive our story. I think it’s classic Jim to be unconventional. They are united as a family, but now have to live with the guilt that someone might feel as a parent or as a sibling. Zoe did a phenomenal job on the death scene. How long will that loss stay with her as a mother? How do you get over it?”.
“Avatar 3” will be released in theaters on December 20, 2024 and will also focus more on Lo’ak, son of Neytiri and Jake. The young Na’vi will become the narrator of the film, replacing his father. Subsequent installments will be narrated by different characters.
