With all the controversy surrounding Wizards of the Coast’s new failed OGL for Dungeons & Dragons, players are looking for new systems to try. If this is you, or if you just wanted to shake things up with your TTRPG game, then there’s a deal going on right now.
DriveThru RPG currently has PDF copies of the Call of Cthulhu starter set (affiliate link), Starter set of RuneQuest (affiliate link), e Basic RPG (affiliate link) of Chaosium for sale for only $1 each. These would be a great investment even if you only have a passing interest in these games.
Sadly, because it’s PDF only, it won’t come with all the physical goodies like dice sets and maps, but you’ll get digital copies of anything that can be digital. You can check out my full review of the Starter Set Call of Cthulhu here and I highly recommend getting it as overall it is a fantastic system. I personally didn’t do anything with Rune Quest or read the Basic RPG book, but I will definitely get them as I have been interested in checking them out. As someone quite familiar with Chaosium on Call of CthulhuI am incredibly impressed with them as a company.
When you buy physical copies of their books from the site, you automatically get access to a PDF copy, which I really appreciate about them. And from what I’ve read in their books, they take great care and thought to give you everything you need to run an inclusive game that is fun for everyone. They give you tons of options to be as accurate as you want while also making sure your players still have the freedom to create any type of character they want.
Overall, I’m always very impressed with everything that has come out of Chaosium. So, like I said, if you have even a passing interest in another system, I would definitely take those three items now. There are no announcements as to how long this sale will last, so don’t miss out.
