Glen Powell says his film CAPTAIN PLANET isn’t dead yet and producer Leonardo DiCaprio is ‘very passionate’ about it

Six years ago, we reported it Top Gun: nonconformist actor GlenPowell was writing A Captain Planet movie, with Leonardo Dicaprio producing from his own Appian Way Productions. At the time, Powell was starring in Scream Queen, Everyone wants some!!And Hidden figuresso she’s had some clout in Hollywood, but after starring in the biggest summer blockbuster of all time this year, she’s got a little more backing these days.

When the project was originally announced, Powell described his take on the environmentalist superhero as “subversive and funny and dark and irreverent.” That was four years ago, and it’s pretty much been crickets ever since. But in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Powell said his “Captain Planet” film with DiCaprio’s production company is still alive and just waiting for Warner Bros. to figure out “where all the superhero stuff goes.”

Powell said:

“I think those conversations will take place shortly. I know DiCaprio is super passionate about it. I’m super passionate about it. I think it could be great… I want it to work. I’d love to play that superhero.”

Get the Captain Planet the off-the-ground movie would be huge for Powell and give him some footing in the superhero universe. Rumors have persisted for months that Powell was being courted by Marvel (possibly to play Cyclops in the “X-Men” reboot), but she stressed to ET that he hasn’t “had a conversation with Marvel.”

“It takes a long time to navigate this city, so for anybody who’s like, ‘Oh, he’d be great in this role,’ that’s humbling, that’s great,” Powell added.
