James Wan wants to remake CHOPPING MALL and NIGHT OF THE CREEPS in his style

I love that director’s horror movies James Wan has made over the years. He’s one of my favorite horror film directors working in Hollywood today. He tends to tell dark and relentlessly nightmarish stories with movies like Insidious, The Evocationand Malicious.

The director is now talking about the possibility of remaking a couple of classic 80s horror films! During a recent interview with /Film, he said he’d like to develop remakes of Night of the Creeps (1986) and Chopping Mall (1986), both filled with campy humor. van said:

“I have a lot of horror movies that I think are just funny that I love, and I’m pretty sure the horror community shares them with me. I love movies like Chopping Mall. I love Night of the Creeps. These, to me, are just kind of horror movies funny things that I wish I could dive into one day, or make them, but with the way I make my movies.”

Seeing Wan play with these movies in his own way and style could be a lot of fun! I haven’t seen any of these movies since I was in high school, but they might be fun to revisit.

In The night of the creeps“After two fraternity members find a frozen body, they decide to use it to play a prank that unleashes slug-like creatures on campus.”

In Cutting mall“Eight teenagers get trapped in a shopping mall after hours and three murderous security robots come after them.”

While it would be interesting to see Wan develop remakes like this, he should also continue to focus on telling original stories because Hollywood has been missing a lot.

What do you think Wan might someday remake these 80s horror movies?
