Some of my favorite TV shows and comedy specials of 2022

2022 seems to have come and gone in a flash and I have seen a lot of great things this year. I’ve seen some great movies, but it seems like my favorite movies list is similar to most you’ll see, so I wanted to tune you into some of my favorite shows and comedy specials this year.

Separation

This series was mind blowing! It’s a slow burn that you have to stick to to get the reward, but it’s worth it. He is the protagonist Adam Scott as a foreman at the super-secret company Lumon, where employees are voluntarily separated from their personal lives. As they step into the elevator to start their day, their minds switch to themselves at work, who know nothing of what’s going on outside, and vice versa. He is also the protagonist Patricia Arquette, John Tuturro, Lower Britt, Zach Cherry, Dichen Lachmann, Jen Tullock, Tramell Tillman, Michael Cernus and Christopher Walken.

We have to do the Separation experience this year’s Comic-Con and join the show’s panel to get an idea of what’s to come in Season 2! I can’t wait to see what comes out of this show. Season 1 is available to watch on Apple TV+.

Someone somewhere

This show was my favorite of the year. It absolutely stole my heart and I watched it over and over again to relive the feeling it gave me when I first saw it. The series stars a comedian Bridget Everett as Sam, a middle-aged woman who returns to her family home in Kansas following the death of her sister and her mother’s impending rehabilitation. Sam finds himself in the midst of a reboot and learns that her voice and her best friends have been waiting right where she left off. She is joined in the cast by Jeff Hillerwho plays his best friend Joel, Maria Caterina Garrison as Sam’s perfect sister Tricia, Mike Hagerty as Sam’s father and stoic Kansas farmer Ed, and Murray Hill as new friend Fred Rococo, an undergraduate soil scientist/master of ceremonies. Season 1 is available to watch on HBO Max and Season 2 will kick off January 13.

The bear

As Stefon would say, this series has it all. It’s high intensity, the acting is top notch, and it’s a real underdog story. The Bear is the protagonist Jeremy Allen White as Carmen, aka Carmy, a young boy who returns to his hometown of Chicago to run the family sandwich shop after working in the best restaurants in the world. The episodes are filled with high-octane adrenaline-pumping scenes that accurately depict working in the stressful food service environment, with dramatic family backstory that ebbs and flows with the tide of the show. The series is also starring Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colon-Zayas, Abby Elliott, Oliver Plattand Jon Bernthal. Season 1 of The bear is available to watch on Hulu.

A league of their own

The series based on the classic movie that everyone loves had a lot of odds against it, as fans would no doubt measure the series against the near-perfect movie. But this show has taken off onto a whole new playing field. While the 1992 film was great in its own right, 30 years later, the series is able to open up a new facet of LGBTQIA+ history and dived even deeper into the injustice of black women who weren’t allowed to star in the World War II All-American Women’s Professional Baseball League. Queer representation in the series is huge, and the heart of the series is still right within the incredible stories of women bursting from the screen, begging to be told after all these years. The series is played by the creator Have Jacobson with Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez, Priscilla Delgado, Molly Ephraim, Kate Berlant, Nick Offermanand Melanie Campo. The comedy, drama and sport itself endeared me to this series and I can’t wait for a second season. A league of their own Season 1 is available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Life & Bet

This hilarious and embarrassing series is everything you could ask for in a Amy Schumer- show created. Schumer plays Beth, who apparently has “everything,” but she’s debating giving it all up, as her life doesn’t seem to be as great as she imagined. She plays opposite Michael Rapaport, Yamaneika Saunders, Young Violet (playing the flashback version of Beth’s teenage self), Laura Benantiand Michael Cera. Schumer’s Beth is real and relatable, just what you’d expect from the comedian, perhaps in a more subtle and quieter way, but ringing as true as ever. Season 1 of Life & Bet is available on Hulu.

Moses Storm: White Trash

This was one of my favorite comedy specials of the year. Moses Tempest he’s such a lovable weirdo with such a fresh account of his strange life and the stories that made him who he is. The final story is the final result and I look forward to seeing more from him. Moses Storm: White Trash is available on HBO Max.

Fortune Feimster: good luck

Best Watched as a direct follow-up to his 2020 special, Fortune Feimster: Sweet and Salty, this was a great account of Fortune’s life during the pandemic. Her delivery is unmatched and she instantly feels like the best friend you grew up with, reaching out to you about her life. I saw her perform live in this set in anticipation of her Netflix special, and it’s just as she described it. We saw it live, then we saw the final product on Netflix and we were like, “Yeah, better.” Fortune Feimster: good luck is available to watch on Netflix.

Taylor Tomlinson: Look at you

This special made me cry, I was laughing so hard. I had to go back and watch all I could from Taylor Tomlinson, as she became my new favorite comedian instantly. This special talks so openly and honestly about mental health, medicine, relationships, and growth. I immediately felt a kinship with Tomlinson and knew I had to share this special with everyone. Tomlinson is just one of the funniest comedians out there, and this was my favorite special of the year. Taylor Tomlinson: Look at you is available to watch on Netflix.
