The reboot also centered around a new take on the vampire slayer, who was originally played by Sarah Michelle Gellar. The new show has been called “contemporary, based on the mythology of the original”.

A few months ago, executive producer Gail Bermann offered an update on the project saying it was “on hiatus.” That came as no surprise after Whedon was cleared of multiple allegations of various forms of inappropriate behavior. But it’s a project Berman seemed passionate about.

There’s a chance that the show will be back in development one day, but if that happens, don’t expect it Sarah Michelle Gellar to be involved. Recently she was asked if she would be interested in being involved during an interview with SFX Magazine and she said:

“I’m not. I’m very proud of the show that we created and there’s no need to do that. We wrapped it up. I’m all for them continuing the story because there’s the story of women’s empowerment. I love the way the show was left: “Any girl with power can have power.” It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have power. But like I said, Buffy’s metaphors were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I don’t i am a teenager.

I can see why people would want to remake the series, but there’s no way a reboot will ever be able to capture the greatness of the original show. I think they should just let it be, and hope the reboot never happens. What do you think?
